Every year we walk into homes across Hendersonville and hear the same question: what color should I actually pick? Here are the shades our customers have been requesting most this year, along with where each one works best. See our interior painting services, or check our FAQ if you have questions about the process.
Start with light, not just the color chip.
The biggest mistake homeowners make is picking a color straight off a paint chip under store lighting. A shade that looks perfect on a small card can read completely different across a full wall in your home's natural light.
Before committing, we recommend painting a large sample swatch, at least two feet by two feet, and viewing it at different times of day. Morning light, afternoon sun and evening lamps can all shift how a color reads.
North-facing rooms tend to make colors look cooler and grayer, while south-facing rooms warm colors up. Test your sample on the actual wall you're painting, not just any wall in the house.
The 7 colors our customers keep choosing
1. Deep, moody blue. A confident choice for living rooms and dining rooms, especially paired with warm wood tones and brass fixtures.
2. Warm greige. A soft blend of gray and beige that works in almost any room and pairs well with both cool and warm trim colors.
3. Soft sage green. Popular in kitchens and bathrooms, sage brings in color without feeling as bold as a true green.
4. Warm white. A step up from stark white trim, warm white keeps ceilings and trim bright without looking cold or clinical.
5. Terracotta and clay tones. Showing up on accent walls and in entryways, these earthy tones add warmth that pairs well with the surrounding mountains.
6. Charcoal and near-black. Used sparingly on doors, built-ins or a single accent wall for contrast without overwhelming a room.
7. Dusty rose. A muted, grown-up take on pink that's showing up in bedrooms and powder rooms as a soft, unexpected accent.
Turning a color choice into a finished room
Picking a color is only step one. The finish also matters: eggshell or satin for most walls, semi-gloss or high-gloss for trim and doors, and washable finishes for kids' rooms, kitchens and bathrooms.
We always recommend sampling on the actual wall before committing, and factoring in how the color will look alongside your existing floors, cabinets and furniture.
"The color you love in a showroom isn't always the color you'll love on your own walls. Testing it in your actual space is the only way to know for sure."
If you'd rather skip the guesswork, our crew can talk through options during your free estimate. See examples of finished rooms on our services page or read what past customers have said in our reviews.
